Confounded Unpacking Woes

In mid-August, we moved into a house. The house is absolutely wonderful, though so much more work than an apartment. We're in a suburb that is reminiscent of the one I grew up in. It's quiet and safe; everything I could wish for after living downtown during a drug epidemic.

All my EGL is going into a spare room, but this room also needs to take the role of a guest bedroom. Hence, I can't let EGL envelope the entire space. I still haven't worn EGL a single time since my last post in June. Since unpacking is a bit tough because of the space restriction it seems like a perfect time to do a purge. But I have this motto to not getting rid of anything off-season. The number of times I've gotten rid of an item of clothing meant for Autumn in Spring and then when Autumn comes round I realize I've made a mistake is a testament to this. In this case, I'm not talking about seasons of the year but seasons of life. While I've been pregnant, I haven't had the passion or desire to wear EGL. Mostly due to feeling too ill. But I foresee this feeling disappearing once I am no longer pregnant and feeling better.

So, when I think about it like this, I shouldn't sell anything at this time unless I was already considering doing so beforehand. What about the space issue? Our house has a large storage room. The solution is to put some things into storage.

I've been filming a few clips here and there as I am unpacking. So maybe I will make a short video if I get enough content.

Also, I did buy one new thing recently:
It's the Happy Treat Star Necklace from Angelic Pretty. A friend of mine was selling it and I thought it will go really nicely with the Dreamy Stage OP:

Well, I don't suppose I'll be wearing EGL any time soon still. A friend recommended I should have a get together with people from my comm before the baby comes but I doubt I have the energy or time. My current goal is to at the very least get everything unpacked and put away (not necessarily neatly).

New Shoes x 2

There has been a need for a classy pair of pink heels in my lolita wardrobe for quite a while. Cotton Candy Feet has some really cute styles. The problem is that there are too many good options! It's taken a few months, but I finally decided on a pair. It came down to choosing the pair with the name I liked the best. Fairy Ballerina Glitter Shoes was the winner! How can you go wrong with fairies, ballerinas and glitter?

I chose the light pink option. Here's a picture showing some my dresses I plan to wear them with:

Collage of four stock images of lolita dresses surrounding a pair of glittery high heels with a bow on the front. There are sketches of a fairy and some plants in the background of the image.
Top Left: Toys Museum
Top Right: Whimsical Vanilla Chan
Bottom Left: Unbirthday
Bottom Right: Dolls Tea Party
All Angelic Pretty

(Yes I did some doodles on this collage. Trying to let my creativity out a bit more.)

In other news I found a super cute Angelic Pretty blouse for sale secondhand online and I bought it!

A cotton blouse with cotton lace. It has three rows of ruffles running down the front, a ruffled hem and collar. The short sleeves also have ruffles and a bow on each. The detachable longer sleeves have ruffles and bows at the end also. The sleeves themselves look otherwise plain. There is a satin ribbon tied at the front. The buttons down the front of the blouse are the same colour as the rest of the blouse.

It's the Decoration Ruffle Blouse from 2009. It has detachable sleeves! It wont come with the detachable ribbon on the front but that's okay because I can just make it myself. It will be my first completely blue blouse. The blue blouses I have are both striped. It is always funny to me how I've been in the fashion so many years but some things that feel like they should be essential (e.g. a plain blue blouse) I just don't have. Something else I don't have is a white bag. Probably, I need two. One for classic looks and one for sweet looks.

Since it's an order from Japan, I picked out a few other items too. Gotta make it worth it. ^^; (goodbye money *watches money flying away*)

A pair of running shoes with a thick sole (trendy). They are mostly white with pastel colour accents. The overall aesthetic is very 80s.
I also got these shoes for more casual lolita looks in a local store! They had a few other pastel coloured shoes as well, but I resisted them. I wish pastel colours could stay in fashion for a long time...

A collage of various colourful lolita dresses all next to a the pair of pastel 80s aesthetic shoes. The dresses all share similar colours to the shoes.
Top row (left to right): Fantastic Carnival, Happy Bunny, Marshmallow Bunny, Toys Museum
Bottom row (left to right): Melody Toys, Toy Parade, Toy Fantasy
All Angelic Pretty

They'll go with many of my dresses! :D Personally, I think combining sneakers with lolita is super cool. It makes the outfits look way more casual.

Weekend Adventures

On Friday afternoon my husband and I went berry picking. I recalled seeing raspberries growing along a nearby path last year. They're black raspberries, actually. There weren't too many ripe fruits, lots of unripe ones. Still, we had a small haul.

A plastic container full of black raspberries. They are smaller than regular raspberries.

The raspberry bushes are feisty! Foraging is a lot of fun, so I don't mind the minor scrapes. I put these into pancakes the next morning. Saturday is always pancakes for breakfast and then I save the leftovers for Monday to make the first day back to work a little more fun.

After berry picking we went to go see Nope, Jordan Peele's latest directed film. There is something special about a horror film directed by a person known for comedy. Hopefully, he will direct more films! I am also hoping that there will be a director's cut of Nope because there was an entire subplot that was removed.

On Saturday afternoon we went to a festival. It was 30 degrees but I really wanted to wear lolita fashion anyway and so I did. Parasol came to the rescue!

The author takes a photo in the mirror. They have a skirt with pin tucks, crossed lace and ruffles at the hem. They are wearing ankle socks with cork sole platform shoes. The crossbody bag as a large bow on it. The blouse is short sleeved and has a pilgrim collar. An open parasol with ruffles is resting on their shoulder. The coordinate is entirely pink and white.
Parasol, headbow: Baby, the Stars Shine Bright
Blouse, socks, wristcuffs: Bodyline
Bag: Angelic Pretty
Necklace: Sweet Dolly House
Shoes: An*Tai*Na
Skirt: Design replica of Angelic Pretty Cross Ribbon Skirt

My natural hair looks okay with the giant head-eating-bow. Why doesn't my longer hair? A mystery. Speaking of hair, I am thinking about growing mine out again.

An old school style felt suited for the festival. Sometimes, when out in public "going back to basics" seems best. Quite a few people complimented my outfit. One girl said she really wanted to get shoes like mine. I wish I had told her to "DO IT" and encouraged her but I was a bit overwhelmed :< Hopefully, I inspired her in some way because another lady had said she felt it was inspiring that I was just wearing whatever I like.

The only problem with a parasol is that you have one hand less free. Not terribly ideal when you are also trying to hold a Korean rice veggie dog (which was very delicious by the way!). I also had this Chinese charcoal baked bun filled with sugar and topped with sesame seeds. Wish I'd taken photos of the food but alas. >__<"

With all the events of the weekend, I feel like I've fully recovered from being ill. I'll be back to the office tomorrow (Monday) but I don't know when I'll return to the gym. Trying not to be too concerned about losing my gains. Maybe it will be fun to see where I am at and start again, who knows?

Bunny Pocket OP

A goal I had a few months ago was to not buy any more lolita for quite some time. I've stuck to this goal!
Angelic Pretty announced they were re-releasing the Bunny Pocket OP, though. This was worth breaking from my embargo on lolita fashion.

The bunny pocket OP in the sax colourway. It has bunny face shaped pockets on the skirt, corset lacing on the bodice and a scalloped double hem.

So then, I spent a lot of time thinking about which colourway to ask my shopping service to purchase. All the colourways are wonderful, I'd be happy with any. I'm always partial to blue, but the first time I saw this dress was in Shelby Cloud's video and hers was pink. So pink has a special meaning for me. The red x white or black x white combo also were super cute. After much deliberation, I put in an order with a shopping service listing the order of my colour preferences, in case my number one choice was unavailable:
#1. Sax
#2. Pink
#3. Black
#4. Red

The Dot Michelle Katyusha matched the dress really well. I requested they purchase it in the same colourway as whichever dress they managed to get.

Sadly, the dress sold out instantly. At 11:00 PM EST I refreshed the page and it was sold out. I never even saw the dress in stock! Only the listing preview page and then instantly sold out! Totally bonkers.

Hopefully, it will also be sold at Angelic Pretty USA, but it wasn't even listed on Angelic Pretty Paris' webstore and I think Paris usually lists at the same time as the Japan store.

It's always so hard to gauge what level of interest a dress is going to have, especially now that I don't use Instagram very frequently.

...

To think I spent all this time trying to choose a colour and also whether or not to try for the Japan store or to try and wait for the USA store. All that worry for nothing! I can't help but laugh a little.

A very special haul

I happened to see the matching KC for Holy Night Story by Angelic Pretty for sale on a Japanese secondhand site and this started a large haul (I also happened to find the matching mini hat as well!!).

I wanted to share a few of the things I bought. Most importantly, I found someone selling the first lolita dress I ever saw. I decided to try it on in a similar fashion to the way I first saw it. No blouse, petticoat or socks or anything.

Innocent World Dot Stripe JSK

This was a surreal moment. I remember the person from those photos writing that the dress skirt was really full. They were right! There's a lot of material there. The dress is not the same colour but I am really happy to have an all ivory dress, I think it's going to make some really cute coordinates.

Innocent World Stripe Pleated Skirt
Baby, the Stars Shine Bright Sucré Transparent Knitting Cardigan

This skirt and cardigan are another two items I ordered. The skirt is kind of odd, which is the reason I bought it. I really love this cardigan. It's a light knit with half sleeves. It's going to be really nice for warmer weather.

Innocent World Tartan Check Frederick Trump JSK
Innocent World Noemi Ribbon Cardigan

Both the jumperskirt and the cardigan here are new. I really really love this dress. It has a lot of velvet details and it's very nice and heavy and it's wonderful. The photo is pretty dark but I am sure I will wear it quite a few times before cold weather leaves us so hopefully I'll get some nice photos to share here.

I've been pretty busy recently. I hope March will be less interesting.

I have a goal for myself to make a headpiece to match my Doll's Tea Party OP. I have the materials already, and a design in mind. Just need to execute it!

Holy Night Story Jumperskirt GET

Finally! I have Angelic Pretty's Holy Night Story switching jumperskirt in green! A couple of years ago I saw the complete set listed on Lacemarket for less than 200$ and I didn't go for it and I regretted it since. So then I was always looking for the dress and having no luck. It was available in other colourways and only when I took a break from checking secondhand sales everyday over the last summer did it get listed. It was sold by the time I saw the posting.
Over the Christmas holiday I saw someone selling the dress without any of the accessories for way more than I'd originally intended to purchase it. But I thought about it and I was tired of checking for this dress all the time and pining over it so I went ahead and bought it. I'm very pleased! The seller even included a mini hat from another release that matches quite well!
Angelic Pretty Holy Night Story on a dress form with a mini hat shaped like a drum on top. The bodice is made of velvet with military style details. The skirt is made of cotton and has a lace trim and glitter on the print.

Close up of the bodice showing the velvet fabric, a bow made from velvet, lace along the square neckline and gold buttons and gold threading to create the military style look.

A close up of the print showing a rocking horse, drums and a large cake. a candle, a trumpet

The back of the dress. The back of the bodice is simple with a centre zip. The waist ties are also velvet and tied.

Close up of the velvet waist tie in the back of the dress with a bullion fringe.

I really like the velvet fabric on this dress. The waist ribbon ends in a bullion fringe. Combined together with the fabric it reminds me of plush old fashioned curtains.

The green is more blue toned than Angelic Pretty's Classic Fairy Tales.

There is also GLITTER in the print. I took a video to capture it:

I am still thinking about how to coord this dress. I always thought that if I got the Ennui Doll blouse from Angelic Pretty I'd try pairing them together because the blouse has a vibrant pink that could match the print.
It also has some nice navy shades that might be interesting to pull out, but I do not have any navy lolita items.
Something about this print reminds me of an iSpy book. I am not sure why. But it feels nostalgic to look at.

The Wardrobe Post 2022

I started working on my wardrobe post last week. I put it off for far too long and in the end I was rushed to get it finished. Note to self, just start in December! One thing I did at the beginning was actually just doing one section at a time e.g. sweet lolita style jumperskirts and then putting them away when I was done photographing them. I would recommend this method to anyone with a big wardrobe. Doing it slowly in little bits over time is great because you are not rushed and you an also put things away without rushing as well and get some good organizing done. I also kept track of any damages I noticed while photographing my wardrobe in a spreadsheet. I can go through this and fix things!
I can't remember if I wrote this in my post about why you should make a wardrobe post but one great thing is that it forces you to reorganize everything!

This was also my first time using my dressform to make the post and that was an interesting experience. It actually helped me to appreciate my pieces better and as I was putting them on I had thoughts about most of the pieces so I decided to write a little blurb under a lot of them. This post feels like a love letter to my lolita fashion wardrobe.

Main Pieces

One Piece Dresses

Angelic Pretty Whimsical Vanilla-chan OP
A dress I never thought I'd own! It's so beautiful! When I received it, the lace was so perfectly pressed. I was amazed. This was before I knew about steamers.

Angelic Pretty Wonder Memories OP
This dress was love at first sight. I'd never even heard of this print before but as soon as I saw it I wanted it. I understand that this print wasn't especially popular. It's an unusual shade of pink. I love the trump on the collar and the colour of the detachable bow and also it has FOUR pockets. Actually, the seller originally forgot to send the detachable bow with it but they sent it once I inquired about it :)

Angelic Pretty Classic Fairy Tales OP
Getting this dress was interesting. I think it was before I knew about Japanese secondhand sales sites. It was one of my dream dresses so I kept waiting for it to pop up for sale and it never did. Eventually I resorted to looking at previous listings for it that hadn't sold and found one. I messaged the seller and she said that yes she still had it and wanted to sell it because she didn't wear lolita anymore. But then I didn't hear anything from her for two months. It turned out she had a baby! I really appreciate she even found the time to get back to me and mail this dress out. I wore this dress on a really magical vacation I took with my partner and have photos of myself wearing this at a butterfly conservatory. It makes the dress even more special.

Finally Trump Alice!

Background: I ordered the Trump Alice JSK from Baby, the Stars Shine Bright in the summer without realizing that they only ship with EMS. EMS currently doesn't ship to Canada. I thought, 'alright, let's wait and see if they start shipping again.' Half a year later I came to the conclusion it's probably not going to happen so I send an email to the company asking if I can change the shipping address to USA. They say yes and thankfully I'm able to have it shipped to a family friend and they forwarded it to me. Apparently when they saw the word 'Trump' on the package they were triggered, which is pretty funny.

I should have taken a photo of how everything looked out of the box, but that didn't happen. I'm going to show some worn photos now~

The author is wearing the JSK with a blouse underneath and showing off the matching wristcuffs
I got the JSK version with a heart on the bodice! This was one of the main reasons I wanted this dress :D. There are trump themed accessories as well: wristcuffs, headbow and socks. I got red which is unusual for me but I enjoy the colour here. I really like this style of headbow as well, it's good for me and my flat hair c:

A shot showing the skirt of the dress, the matching socks and a pair of lolita shoes with double straps and bows and a small platform.
I paired the coordinate with these blue shoes because I really love the pop of blue from Alice's dress in the print.

Full coordinate shot with the addition of a black and white oldschool cardigan. The author is standing infront of closed closet doors and doing a funny pose on one leg like they are taking a big step.
It's cold both outside and inside so cardigan has to happen. I'm glad this is a dress that goes with this particular cardigan because there's not currently a whole lot to go with the cardigan at the moment.

I am currently working on my wardrobe post but I'm unsure if I'll manage to finish before the end of January. All my main pieces are photographed but tops and accessories are not. ><
This time I used my dressform instead of doing a flatlay. It's funny to see how all my lolita clothes fit on the dressform compared to my own body.

I'm not including this dress in the wardrobe post, although I bought it last year I didn't receive it until 2022 so~

Also! spy another new dress in the corner of two of the photos! I want to make a post about it soon!!

Reflections after Ten Years in Lolita Fashion

As I mentioned in a previous post, I received an enormous package of secondhand lolita items last month. It may have been the most I've ever spent on lolita in a single order.

A lot of things needed to be laundered and due to health issues it took a while to finally get them all washed. Now the pieces are all scattered everywhere (read: put away in their places) so it's a bit inconvenient to take a haul photo at this point, especially because health issues are yet to be resolved.

There's also this matter of not wanting to encourage consumerism, as I also wrote about previously.

Anyway, I can't stand to not make some kind of record about it!

So... Now that I have been wearing the things from that haul, I am struck by a thought that it feels like this collection of items really represents my core values in lolita fashion. I've struggled a lot in the past with trying to define my lolita style, wanting that cohesive wardrobe but loving too many different things. My 10 year anniversary of wearing lolita fashion is fast approaching. I'm feeling nostalgic. Here's what I've learned:

I love old Innocent World. It is the quintessential lolita style. Without a doubt, that is because it was the first brand I ever saw, circa 2009.

A stock photo of a jumperskirt from Innocent World called Dot Stripe JSK. It is relatively simple with a 4-tier skirt, a bow at the waist and a square neckline.
Innocent World's Dot Stripe JSK, the first lolita dress I ever saw.

When it comes to Angelic Pretty, I prefer their lavender line and Kira Imai prints the most. I'm surprised to realize that I prefer muted pastels. Does this mean I will get rid of my 2010 era AP? No, definitely not. There's another type of nostalgia there (but I am not writing about that right now).

My current predominant style is best described as sweet-classic or classic-sweet. I'm not sure which one is more commonly used or if they are considered to have different meanings.

I would also describe my style as casual. I prefer things that are simple or more plain, easy to wear and comfortable.

At this time, I'm confident in saying that Innocent World is my favourite brand. Their older pieces revives the flame that my first encounter with lolita sparked.

A collage of many stock photos of lolita items. They are mostly from Innocent World. Predominant colours are offwhites, ivories and light blues.
Here's a collection of stock images of my haul. Some items, I couldn't locate on Lolibary.

I still have the original photos that started it all for me, but they were saved off of someone's personal LiveJournal so I wont be sharing them here. I can describe one of them though. It's a low quality photograph of a girl wearing the Dot Strike JSK in lavender, with no blouse, no socks or shoes. She's taking the photo in a mirror with a digital camera. Behind the mirror you can catch a glimpse of her closet, there's a white petticoat, a couple of blouses and a pink BTSSB skirt, it looks like the 2006 release of Scallop Hem Skirt. She's standing on a forest green Persian rug, the floor is wooden parquet. There's a bunch of beaded necklaces hanging off of one side of the mirror. In the background on the wall is what looks like oil pastel drawings of samurai. The lighting is warm.

The aesthetic reminds me of Neco z Alenky, another huge inspiration of mine.

I am thinking about wearing a coordinate soon of my very first lolita dress, the one that I received for Christmas in 2011.

The blogger is standing in front of a mirror taking a photo in a lolita dress with a cardigan. They are covering their face with a peace sign. They're standing in a messy room.

Here's a photo of what I am wearing today. It's the Bustle Flare JSK from the haul. It's the shortest dress I own, it cannot fit a regular petticoat and I love it. I wanted to buy this dress for months and months and I'm so happy I finally did it!!

I ALSO have to point out that I bought a black colourway of Doll's Tea Party. Black is making a comeback in my wardrobe, it's going to happen. I really am considering buying a few more black pieces. My closet is pretty full, but I love everything in it and also bought new hangers sooooo~

Updating the wishlist

Just for record keeping's sake, the following are being removed from the wish list because they have been obtained.

Edward Muffler

Toys Museum JSK or OP in pink or sax

Doll's Tea Party Special Set OP in black

I basically had a massive haul. Much $$$, but I got some really great things. After washing, I might make a post showing what I'd bought. Unboxing/haul videos seem to encourage spending for me, so I decided not to film myself unboxing it all in case it might have the same negative effect on someone else.

Thinking about adding a few new items onto the wish list. But not 100% decided yet.
Currently, thinking about:
  • Candy Carol OP in ivory
  • Stardust Fantasia in navy (although I wouldn't mind any of the other colorways, really)
  • BTSSB bunny ear hoodie in sax
Nothing else comes to mind at the moment!

Why I Love One Piece Dresses

Jumperskirts are great. The requirement of a blouse presents an easy avenue for highlighting certain colours in a print. Blouses in different styles also present the opportunity to change the look of the coordinate.

I've always preferred one piece dresses, but in the past years, I've gained this appreciation for jumperskirts. Experimenting with which blouse to go underneath the dress is a lot of fun.

As an example of this, I originally wanted the one piece dress of Angelic Pretty's Toy Fantasy. I changed my wishlist to be for the jumperskirt cut instead.

But I am having a personal renaissance with one piece dresses.

They are just so easy to wear. Sometimes, it's already kind of daunting to me to get dressed. So anything that makes it easier is a bonus. With a one piece dress, I can just put it on and instantly look cute.

I don't want to worry about wearing the same coordinate more than once (even though I do, even with non lolita items). It's nice to wear a coordinate I love over and over.

All of this is really to say, I bought the one piece dress of Toy Fantasy in Sax.

Here are some coordinate collages:

Toy fantasy OP surrounded by a collage of sax coloured accessories to go with it.
A sax themed coordinate.

Toy fantasy OP surrounded by pink themed accessory items
A mostly pink (with some blue) themed coordinate.

I found it a bit hard to make coordinate collages because the print seems pretty detailed but I can't see it too well in the stock photo. Looking forward to seeing it in person :D

Toy Parade!

I bought the Toy Parade one piece in white :x
I saw it for a decent price on Yahoo Auctions. I actually thought that maybe my shopping service didn't actually bid on it at first because the price never changed! But they did bid on it. We were the only bidder.

The toy parade one piece dress. It is the white colourway and has a big bow in the centre. It has short puff sleeves and a Peter-pan collar. There is lace along the bottom of the skirt.
I also bought these two hair accessories to go with it:
A stock image of a rectangle headdress with rabbit ears attached to it.A stock image of a pair of bear ears with a tag on them.

I thought I'd never buy this dress because the print is so ... childish, I guess.

An image of the print from Toy Parade. Lots of toys including stuffed animals, blocks and balls are in the print. It comes in four colourways.
I never realized there's no blue in this print!

I also bought a new pair of gold Tea Party shoes as well from Angelic Pretty.

Here is a potential coordinate I came up with:

A collage of different stock items. There is the bear ear headband and dress pictures from above. In addition there is a rectangular purse with a bow on it, a pair of wrist cuffs with bows and heart charms, a pair of tea party shoes in gold, a pair of striped knee high socks with a rocking horse and balloons on them. There are also two glittery pins, one of a stuffed bunny and another of a stuffed bear.

Today, I saw a lady with a big bubble wand standing on a big rock in a park releasing all these perfect bubbles. They were really beautiful in the sunlight. Rainbow colours. Makes me want to get Toy Fantasy!

***I haven't posted in a while because I was pretty sick the past few months but I am feeling better now. I tried to make a post about it but deleted it shortly after, sorry to anyone that read it.

Wishlist Update

Today I am removing somethings from my wish list because I have gotten them!

Fantastic Carnival by Angelic Pretty! I wanted to get the pink colourway either JSK or OP, but it seems this is unlikely to ever happen because this colourway is really expensive. I saw the mint colourway come up for sale at a much more reasonable price a few times. Finally, I decided to get it because it came with the matching head bow too!

Milky-chan the Fawn Bag!! I saw it come up for sale on Mercari. I caved in and spent the crazy amount of money for it. I have no regrets! I'm so happy with it. It even came with the tags :o

I also ordered a pair of white rocking horse shoes from Taobao from the Bodyline manufacturer.

I am going to also add some things too:

  • Mary's Sweet Sheep JSK by Baby, the Stars Shine Bright
  • Edward Muffler by Innocent World
  • Toy's Museum by Angelic Pretty
