Dress form!!

It's an iconic item for a person into lolita fashion to have! A dress form! And now I own one! Ahhhh!

This is really exciting for me, excuse the exclamation marks. This feels akin to the feeling of when I got my Usakumya. Only even more so.

I was always under the impression that dress forms are prohibitively expensive because the ones on display at Fabricland are hundreds of dollars. But, apparently you can buy cheapo ones online. This dress form that came in the mail today was actually ordered by my mom for making my wedding dress. But! That project hasn't started yet and she's away on vacation.

I dressed it up! Ah! This is so cool, I'm really happy about it.

Today, I went to an indoor trampoline park and did a lot of bouncing around. I haven't been able to get exercise while I'm being murdered by school. It was a lot of fun, though I wish the trampolines were a bit bigger... it's geared more towards children (why do children get all the cool things?).

Now I'm just sitting on the couch and enjoying the view:

No, I don't know why the oven door is missing. Things have been consistently breaking down since my dad died. Maybe it's his ghost haunting us 👻

Down with the Sickness

I've caught a flu or something. I have a lot of schoolwork I could be doing, but I don't quite feel well enough. At least, everything that's due tomorrow is done.

I bought a new-to-me head bow that should be coming in the next few weeks. It is the one that matches with my BTSSB Tartan Check Hem Scallop JSK

Apparently, Innocent World made a JSK with the exact same fabric as these BTSSB items because I actually ended up buying this head bow in a set with that IW JSK.

I've looked for it on lolibrary, but no luck. I can find a JSK that was released with the same cut, but not the same fabric.

I'm also thinking about ordering this vegan egg. I think eggs are the thing I miss the most. I wonder if I would even still like them.

Nearing the End of Summer (Finally!)

Nearing the end of summer --> The weather is colder! This means: wearing lolita again.
I wore lolita the entire day today! I had a group meeting in the morning, I stopped to visit my aunt and then had dinner with my fiance's family. There was a lot of stress involved. When I used to take medication for my anxiety, I had no problem wearing lolita. Now I get anxious wearing it. I'm super exhausted from the day, but I'm glad I did it.

So what happened when I wore lolita? Here is a record to help me remember:

• A girl in my group told me I should wear it more often, even to school. 
• My aunt really was interested in trying to sew a lolita dress for me. I told her I have patterns from the Gothic and Lolita Bible, but they're in Japanese. I think she's up for the challenge!
• And some guy on the street yelled at me, but he seemed to like what I was wearing.

There was a flying stinging insect hovering around me during this photo.

I'd love to wear lolita to school, but I don't know if I have to guts to do it. Plus, lolita isn't the most comfortable stuff to wear. I'm looking at you, petticoats! :<  So for now, I'm going to try to wear it on the weekends when I can. I've probably spent thousands of dollars on my wardrobe at this point (which is insane to think about) and I haven't been wearing it. Me from 8 years ago probably would hxc hate the current me for not wearing it more often.

Okay, that's it. I started my last year of uni last week and I'm probably going to drown/die over the course of the next few months.

Circling Hawks

I bought things at a cool store up 'north'. It's a sort of eclectic magic-y mystical store. They have a fairy garden in the backyard, but when we were there they had actually just discovered a large sinkhole that morning and it was closed off. :'(

 

The book and socks were on sale. I think this book is in a sort of series. I needed more books to fuel my goal to read one book a month this year. The foil tube has charcoal tabs inside (I've had a hard time getting the charcoal from my backyard fire pit to light, so I wanted to try these out instead) and powdered incense is inside the container.

 

I like owls. These socks are strange. The toes are not like normal socks. They're sewn different, like the seam is straight across and doesn't curve with my feet.

My Hair Accessory Drawer/ Is My Wardrobe Becoming Complete?

Things came in the mail today! Two head bows:

Rose Corsage Round Head Bow

This could go with my BTSSB Seraffi JSK or my Bodyline Princess Skirt.

Classic Fairy Tales Head Bow

I have the Classic Fairy Tales OP in green and I haven't had any luck finding the head bow at all so when I found this I just bought it. I'll probably invest in some matte dark green ribbon and wear it together with this head bow. 

I didn't feel like taking photos myself of these head bows individually, but see if you can find them in the photo below of my reorganized hair accessory/writstcuff drawer. (I know it's still a mess)

Other things came too~ A set of socks, some of which I plan to sell. I mainly wanted the set for a pair of strawberry crew socks to go with Sheep Garden AND the matching socks to Toy Parade. :D Woo~ the socks look soo awesome with Sheep Garden. I'm really happy. There's only one other main item I'm currently looking for to complete all the possible coords I want to do with Sheep Garden: Strawberry Parlour Hat (not the abaca one! >:c ). Of course, I also am considering buying some of the strawberry jewellery and maybe even red shoes... but they don't seem as important as the hat!

This got me thinking about the overall state of my wardrobe and how it seems that it's nearing a feeling of completion. There are very few dresses left in my wish list. There are few items left in my wish list in general. I know other people's wardrobes are ever evolving, that they never necessarily reach a state of completion. I'm sure it's really the same for mine too. I do think I am trying to capture a feeling with my wardrobe that is specific to myself when I was first becoming interested in lolita fashion. I want my wardrobe to be all those things I loved about the fashion back when I was originally learning about it and right now I feel like I've begun to achieve that feeling. It's pretty cool. Hard to believe I've been into lolita for almost 10 years now.

For the record: Toy fantasy print parka was also acquired.

Some Spontaneity

I really miss the days of LiveJournal. ;^; Things felt more spontaneous. On Blogger, I feel like posts need to be premeditated and thought out. Maybe I just feel that way.

You know, it was through the same LiveJournal user that I discovered veganism and lolita fashion. I didn't even know her, she was a friend of a friend.

I wonder what it's like to be a young person now, growing up with the internet the way it is...

Tailchaser's Song Book Review

A goal of mine this year was to read twelve books. One book a month. Although I came into the year reading The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnus Nutter, Witch, the first book which I fully began in the new year was Tailcher's Song.

Tailchaser's Song is the novel written/published by Tad Williams. The quote on the back cover compares this novel to Watership Down. I've never read Watership Down (though it is on my list), so I can't verify how comparable it really is. I felt it had a The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings feel to it.

The characters are one of my favourite things about this book. I feel that all the characters are really well developed. I can easily imagine an entire novel devoted to their own stories. There is also a strong female character that exists without having a romantic connection to the main character. Being female myself, something that irks me about action/adventure stories is that female characters are frequently reduced to some kind of love interest. The fact that the book saves the readers from that experience, is something I appreciate.

Tad Williams was able to create an entire world with its own lore and terminology even. There is a glossary in the back of the book (which I didn't discover until I was finished reading it). I can see how some people might actually be put-off by the terminology or the ways some of the other animal species speak. I know people that couldn't stand to read Flower's for Algernon. For myself, I found the terminology further immersed me in the book.

A thing that I feel is important to mention is that parts of the book are really disturbing. At those parts, I wanted to stop reading because they were really so awful, but at the same time I wanted those awful things to be over so I kept reading. A sign of a good story, to me, is the ability to make such a connection with the book that things happening affect me on an emotional level.

If it hasn't been obvious from what I've written above, I love this book. (I might make a blog post in the future with some further thoughts I've had on the book.) If you like fantasy books and stories about anthropomorphized animals, I suggest reading it for sure.
